Sweet Newborn Uriah

I’ve known Latoya my whole darn life… we were cheerleaders together waaaayyy back in the day…eherrrm…  I have been lucky enough document lots of important movements of their lives together as well! I took Dave & Latoya’s engagement photos a few years back but was too pregnant to be her wedding photographer. (I did make sure to get a few fun shots as a guest though!)  So yeah, I was pretty excited to meet their sweet new baby.

August (my new photography assistant) and I packed up all my camera gear and headed over to meet sweet Uriah for the first of many play dates they will surely have together in the years ahead.  Walking into the home of brand new parents and a brand new baby is like walking into a new and magical universe.  Honestly, it’s magic… I love soaking up all that sweet, fresh energy of a newly created family.  (I love my job…) These two parents were as cool and calm as they get.  They moved so naturally around each other and Uriah.  So we chatted and laughed.  They filled me in on Uriah’s crazy entrance into this world, one thing is for sure, his Momma is strong and powerful!  What a lucky boy, indeed!

I got to marvel at their new son for a few hours capturing this very special time that lasts only for a few short days…(Have I mentioned how much I adore my job!)

Oh and I just had to end this newborn story with a photo of Dave cooking up a yummy breakfast for Latoya as I left… Dad’s play such an important role for new Momma’s and Dave seemed to know just what it was… diapers and food!

I can’t thank you both enough for sharing this special time with me & August too!

Connor & Caydence ~ a playdate!

Justine contacted me for some fun photo’s of her amazing kids Connor and Cay-Cay.  Boy did we have a blast, I love it when kids come with their game faces on, ready for action.  Connor has these amazing dimples and, my gosh, Cay’s missing two front teeth were just too sweet! I had so much fun with them, they laughed and giggled and did all the crazy stuff I asked of them…

Wendy & Ryan ~ A celebration

I met with Wendy and Ryan last spring when they told me their wedding day plan and I was swept away.  The two of them planned to head up north with their pup and an officiant, hike some beautiful trails in their wedding day finest with a few passing hikers to witness as they married… now, if that isn’t romantic, I don’t know what is!

They planned a wonderful reception to celebrate with friends and family this fall and invited me to come too.  I loved the flowers, the food, the yard games and the band!  Everything was simple and easy just as they envisioned many months before.  They camped near by… and ended the night with a cozy bonfire under an orange harvest moon.

Tim & Lindsey ~ A steamy summer ceremony

Tim and Lindsey are an amazing couple so very calm, cool and collected on the day of their wedding too!  I was so excited for their wedding day after taking their engagement photo’s that we had a similar vision and that it was going to be a fun group to work with. PLUS, now know how it feels to photography Ken and Barbie.  Honestly, I don’t think a couple can get much more attractive then these two!

I was so glad to have Courtney, my second photographer, along to grab some of the amazing details… check out that shoe shot, I work with some talented people, ya’ll!

Clara & Scott ~ A hot day to get married!

Meeting and getting to know Clara and Scott has been so much fun, especially seeing Clara’s creative side.  She has been one of the craftiest brides I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.  This amazing couple left no detail tended to… right down remembering Scott’s Confirmation Bible from childhood, perfect wedding favors of pens and pencils (Clara is a teacher!) and a super stocked photo booth!  The day was a hot one for sure, but the wedding party were super sports and we had a blast at Ella’s Deli taking some super fun portraits in blazin’ sun.

One of my favorite moments of the day was watching Clara and Scott open up their letters to each other before the ceremony.  Scott even had a ticket from the baseball game where they spent their first date!  Oh and I LOVED Clara’s something ‘blue’… I’ll leave you in suspense…

From Clara:

What tips and recommendations do you have for future brides?

Take time on your wedding day to take in all of the love and joy that surrounds you. Look around and appreciate all of the friends and family who have gathered and traveled to share in your special day. My husband is still saying, “All of this is for us, and it’s all because we love each other.” If you have the opportunity after your ceremony, take a private moment with your husband – find a space where you can be alone to just share an embrace and a kiss to remind yourself that, no matter what, it’s all about the two of you. Every smile, laugh, and hug, every glass raised, cake eaten and dance danced, it’s all because you love each other and have made a lifelong commitment to one another.

On a more practical note, if you are fortunate enough to have friends and family who offer their time to help with the preparations, accept it! Take any and all help anyone offers – no task is too  small to make a difference. We would have been up all night before our wedding finishing everything if it weren’t for the help of our friends and family.
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
My favorite part of our day was seeing my husband’s constant smile. It showed me that he was just as excited to be getting married as I was. From the moment he saw me from the end of the aisle, his smile made me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world, and it helped calm me when I got nervous.  Scott’s favorite part of our day was seeing all of the people who mean so much to us and knowing that, whether they traveled across the country or across town, they were there to celebrate our love.

Allysa & Gregory ~ The Perfect Afternoon Wedding

Getting to know this amazing couple over the past two years has been such a breath of fresh air.  They are young, gracious and so sweetly in love.  We first met over coffee where they expressed their desire for the wedding to be a simple event with the focus solely on their union as a couple and after all this time that is exactly what they achieved.

There are so many unforgettable moments from this magical wedding day.  Allysa was the first of her friends to get married and seeing the genuine excitement on all of her bridesmaids faces as she put the final touches on her wedding dress was priceless. Oh and the look on Gregory’s face as he saw his beautiful bride took my breath away and I may have shed a tear or two myself.  My favorite ‘detail’ from the day was when Allysa’s mother brought a piece of paper she found where Allysa had been practicing writing her new married name… ummm, it doesn’t get much sweeter than than that!

They had a reception following the ceremony and were whisked away in a limo to spend the week in lovely Jamaica as a newlywed couple.  What a beautiful day for such a fantastic pair.  I’m so lucky to have been chosen to photograph such a lovely wedding.

From Allysa & Gregory

Allysa: My favorite part of our wedding day was when I got to see Gregory for the first time.  I knew he would probably tear up, but I didn’t expect him to cry! (Gregory said this was also his favorite part of the day.)

Allysa’s tips for future brides: Our wedding day was really quite amazing.  I would highly recommend Upstairs Downstairs Catering! Megan Vlazny was awesome, SO helpful and very professional and organized, along with the rest of the Up/Down staff. The food was soooo good, and everything was laid out beautifully.

I also would highly recommend Dutch Designs – Hope Oostick for anyone looking for a florist – she is so creative and did an absolutely incredible job with our flower arrangements, bouquets, etc.  All I did was tell her my wedding colors (purple and lime green) and she literally did everything else.  Everything turned out so beautifully, I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

I also have to recommend the Jeweler that we purchased our rings from.  Kessler’s has been incredible!  After purchasing our rings there, I will never buy our jewelry anywhere else.  We mainly have worked with Jay, but really everyone there has been great.  Kessler’s customer service is amazing.

Like I said, everything was so wonderful on our wedding day, but Upstairs Downstairs Catering (Megan Vlazny), Dutch Designs (Hope Oostick), and Kessler’s all stick out in my mind because all of them were so helpful, and did such a great job.  They really went far above and beyond what I had expected.

Erika & Zac ~ A true Madison wedding!

Erika and Zac were a fantastic couple to photograph on their hot June wedding day. Having been together for nearly 10 years they just have this relaxed and natural presences when you spend time with them making our day together so easy and fun. Everything flowed along and we had a great time with all of our stops for photographs at Madison’s best sites, and what UW Madison wedding wouldn’t be complete without a visit from Bucky!?

A favorite part of my day was the personalized vows they each shared, and as a wife to a gamer I chuckled along with everyone when Zac knew he had a keeper when Erika didn’t bat an eyelash with one of his favorite hobbies!

I love all of the attention to detail that Erika added to her special day and am so excited to share my favorite photo’s!

Tips from Erika & Zac:

Erika what was your favorite part of your wedding day?
The ceremony and seeing all of our family and friends.

Do you have any suggestions for future brides or vendor recommendations?
I would absolutely recommend Betsy at Piece of Cake Consulting. She was amazing and went above and beyond to help us prepare. I would also recommend Karly Jo!
My advice would be to make a decision and stick to it, you’ll go crazy over-analyzing vendors during the planning process. Also don’t over-book yourself on the wedding day, you want to be able to enjoy your day and not feel stressed out the entire time.

Zac what was the most memorable moment from your wedding day?
Having Bucky there.

4th Annual Spring Wine Fest

I was lucky enough to be asked to photograph this super fun event for the St. Paul University Catholic Center on the UW campus.  The event was a fundraiser to help build a new building to replace the existing building and location at the bottom of State Street.  You can learn more about the grand plans they have here.  It looks like an amazing project and I can’t wait to see work begin.
