I’ve known Latoya my whole darn life… we were cheerleaders together waaaayyy back in the day…eherrrm… I have been lucky enough document lots of important movements of their lives together as well! I took Dave & Latoya’s engagement photos a few years back but was too pregnant to be her wedding photographer. (I did make sure to get a few fun shots as a guest though!) So yeah, I was pretty excited to meet their sweet new baby.
August (my new photography assistant) and I packed up all my camera gear and headed over to meet sweet Uriah for the first of many play dates they will surely have together in the years ahead. Walking into the home of brand new parents and a brand new baby is like walking into a new and magical universe. Honestly, it’s magic… I love soaking up all that sweet, fresh energy of a newly created family. (I love my job…) These two parents were as cool and calm as they get. They moved so naturally around each other and Uriah. So we chatted and laughed. They filled me in on Uriah’s crazy entrance into this world, one thing is for sure, his Momma is strong and powerful! What a lucky boy, indeed!
I got to marvel at their new son for a few hours capturing this very special time that lasts only for a few short days…(Have I mentioned how much I adore my job!)
Oh and I just had to end this newborn story with a photo of Dave cooking up a yummy breakfast for Latoya as I left… Dad’s play such an important role for new Momma’s and Dave seemed to know just what it was… diapers and food!
I can’t thank you both enough for sharing this special time with me & August too!
I was pretty
excited nervous when Meghan and Ryan wanted to do some studio portraits of their family. I’m not one for overly posed placements so getting everyone relaxed and having fun in my small studio was going to take some thought. Then BAM, it hit me… add the blue flower beast of a couch we have for client meetings… yes, it was a stroke of brilliance if I do say so myself. After some chill time in studio we had just few moments to take a couple of photo’s near this sweet patch of red sumac I’d been eyeing up before the rain came in. Even with the cold those colors made for a perfect fall backdrop.
The girls were so full of energy, Alice sure knows how to dish out some sisterly love! Thanks for rolling with my ideas ya’ll.
What a pleasure it was to hang with Chris, Tiffani and their sweet girls. These two little ones were filled with tons of energy and I was glad to have the chance play and collect sticks with Ms. Evie. Oh and watch out for Ms. Cadence she knows how to strike a pose on a dime!
Betsy and I both grew up in Cottage Grove and our paths crossed again last week when she her husband, Jared and their three children came to Stoughton for a family lifestyle portrait session. Betsy won this session in a silent auction helping a mutual friend as she is helping her sweet little girl fight off cancer. We are all rooting for little Victoria Walhovd in her recovery and praying for their family to have some much-needed peace in their life once again. Both Betsy and and I have three children of our own, and I’m pretty sure we both can agree that Victoria’s parents Brian & Melissa are about the strongest people we know.
I was so glad to help and I got to meet some really great people on a beautiful fall day… so gee, a win-win for me!
Betsy let me take the lead on choosing a location and I have been wanting to do some family photos in this park for a while, so thanks so much for being so agreeable. I had a blast, and I hope you did too!
Here are a few of my favorites from our session. Enjoy!
Fawn & David are gearing up for their October wedding and not only are they knee deep in wedding plans but they are busy with their three boys Zeke, Colton and sweet little Montgomery too! Fawn thought it would be fun to do a fun family shoot rather than just engagement photo’s and it was so much fun getting to know her amazing boys! As a mother of two little girls and a surprise on the way next month, I love all the raw energy that oozes out of little boys and I knew we had to head down to the train tracks and do some exploring.
I’m so looking forward to to see how big Montgomery gets until our next meeting.
so much fun!!
For the past 10 years, Scot and I have been making trips down to Missouri to visit his cousin Jason and his family. Each visit went by way to quickly and seeing each other every 6 months was just a bummer. We finally convinced them to make the move to Wisconsin this past summer. I was thrilled and even more thrilled when they found a house within walking distance of our house. Jason, Julie, Noah, Madison and Anderson have settled in nicely and I feel like we have a wonderful new rhythm established as a large group of Schafer’s. Gosh is it nice to have family so close… Sunday dinners, play dates with the little ones, game nights. I couldn’t be happier to have them so close and the least I could do was give them their first official family photography session. Welcome to Wisconsin!
My husband Scot met Ben and Juli wayyyy back in the days of house parties and dorm rooms. I’ve known them for a few years myself. I think for both our families the term house party has taken on a whole new meaning… These days we rarely get the chance to see much of each other but thank goodness for the wonderful world of blogs and facebook we can still keep in touch. Ben and Juli have their very own blog that has been one of my favorites for the past year plus.
They recently went to China in the quest to make their family of 5 a family of 6 with addition of their sweet son Caleb. I’ve followed along, learning about their journey, crossing my fingers for safe travels and cried my fair share of tears too. Their story is inspiring and makes me so amazingly proud to know such generous and kind people. Ben and Juli found their son through and amazing organization called Reece’s Rainbow. An adoption ministry that helps children around the world with downs syndrome and other disabilities find their forever families.
Scot and I were never able to attend any of the fund-raisers and events they hosted to help bring Caleb home to them but I so wanted to support them the best way I could. I was so excited when they agreed to come down to Madison to visit and take some family photo’s. Even with a super rainy day we still managed to have a blast catching up and snapping a few fun photo’s at the Madison Children’s Museum.
